The Fortieth Day

Eighteen years after we began playing as The Fortieth Day, we're pleased to present "The Salvation Of Souls," the last of three new albums that we've been working on over the past few years. For this album, we've created a set of seven songs that attempt to blend elements of our studio and live sounds.

As with our two previous albums from 2023, this album is a digital-only release, available via Bandcamp, and it's streaming on all major platforms:

In addition to our new album, we've added six additional albums, which were previously only on Bandcamp, to all the streaming platforms:

Tidal

The Sodality “Unburdened Underpass” CD

I'm pleased to announce that I now have limited copies in stock via my webstore:
https://bloodshop.bigcartel.com/product/the-sodality-unburdened-underpass-cd

Originally created in 1984 by Andrea Cernotto & Pierpaolo Zoppo, The Sodality bloomed under Andrea‘s guidance across seminal works in the 80's and 90's. The project was revived by original members Paolo Bandera and Eraldo Bernocchi for a 2014 concert with Mark Solotroff on vocals, and again in 2023, for a live show and new recordings with the same line-up + contribution by founder Andrea Cernotto.

“Unburdened Underpass” includes two brand new, very long and mostly instrumental tracks, completely different from the “Schmooze & Sleaze” 12”. While visually related to the previous release (thanks to the striking artwork of Petulia Mattioli), the audio content provides a radically alternative angle of The Sodality’s extreme existentialism, obsessed with the ageing of libido and the intoxicating stench of death.

“… extreme existentialism, an act of pure and unadulterated audio commentaries about old age, the transformation of libido and the irreversible path to death … naked and raw as spilled guts, while sophisticated as a post-sociology tome, an exercise in psychology dissection… deadly / funnily serious and fully unpredictable… voices explode like dying worms and howling monsters, noises like falling stars and sudden earthquakes, frequencies like injected poisons and rumbling cascades… words inflate like melting projectiles and concept pornographies …”

The Sodality: Paolo Bandera, Eraldo Bernocchi, Mark Solotroff, Andrea Cernotto
Conceived & composed by Paolo Bandera
Produced by Eraldo Bernocchi
Executive production and framework structuring by Paolo Bandera
Engineering, mixing and mastering by Eraldo Bernocchi
Driving vocals by Mark Solotroff, recorded by Sanford Parker @ Hypercube, Chicago
Side vocals by Andrea Cernotto
Electronics recorded January – May 2023 in Milano, London and Chicago
Artwork by Petulia Mattioli

October 23, 2023 Update

Eighteen years after we began playing as The Fortieth Day, we are pleased to present "Under The Influence Of Delirium," the second of three new albums that we have been working on over the past few years. For this album, we have returned to the format of two monolithic slabs of sound that carry the weight of our live shows. There's still more to come in 2023...

Isidro Reyes: Bass and Electronics
Mark Solotroff: Guitar and Electronics

1. The Sins Of These People Are Manifold (30:00)
2. These Gains Have Not Come Without A Price (30:00)

The album is now available to stream/download via Bandcamp and it is heading to all major digital platforms.

https://thefortiethday.bandcamp.com/album/under-the-influence-of-delirium

We are still in the process of adding our early releases to all the platforms and we have already added the following titles:

Bandcamp
Spotify
Apple Music/iTunes
Amazon Music
Tidal

Anatomy of Habit just received the first round of mixes from Sanford Parker for our as yet untitled fifth album, the third by our current line-up. We're excited to hear these mixes and we'll be listening closely to them over the next several days. We're potentially looking at a late-2024 releases date for the album.

We'll be joining Chrome Waves and Black Cross Hotel for two shows in early December, the first of which was just announced and which also includes Burndy, the band led by BLOODYMINDED's Megan Emish. Burndy just recorded their first album with Sanford Parker (also of Black Cross Hotel) at Electrical Audio in Chicago:

I'll add details about the next day, ASAP. In the meantime, we have this show coming up in November with AseetheBassoon, and Nequient:

Mark Solotroff - Everything Is Noise - Song Premiere

Earlier today, Everything Is Noise premiered a new song - "Almost All Promises" - from my forthcoming album, "Today The Infinite, Tomorrow Zero." I appreciate that the song is being hosted, as well as the extremely positive and thoughtful write-up provided by Eeli. You can hear the exclusive stream of my song, and read Eeli's reaction, here:

Threadless
I'm also grateful for all of the Threadless orders that were placed following my last update! After I sent/posted it, I added a basic new BLOODYMINDED logo design, for shirts, hoodies, and totes:

BLOODYMINDED
Finally, we just couldn't let 2023 slip past without a BLOODYMINDED show happening. Well, we could, but this wasn't one to turn down. This hasn't been officially announced yet, but this flyer is already circulating on IG/FB. If you attended our show with Nika at the International Museum of Surgical Science in 2019, or even if you just saw the recap and the beautiful photos, you'll know that you should keep your eyes peeled for the forthcoming ticket announcement.

Thank you for reading!
Mark

Threadless Update

I've just completed a major overhaul of my Threadless shop. I was under the impression that things were running smoothly, but it turns out that there were still some old designs with non-transparent backgrounds that were printing with a black box around/behind the design. I systematically went through 50+ designs to make sure that they all comply with Threadless specifications and that any designs that had a solid background were converted to transparent backgrounds. I also cleaned up the shop a bit, deleted a few design options, and added some new things.

I apologize if you ordered from my shop and received a shirt or a hoody that you weren't satisfied with. I'd like to make up for that with some music - vinyl or CDs, if possible, or with a sale code for a future order. Please reach out to me directly with any wrongs that I might be able to right.

My store has a sale happening now, through 10/16, including such discounts as:

Two new Intrinsic Action designs were added today, and I expect additional designs to be added to the store soon:
